A new Café de Paris in 2023

For a few weeks now, one of the Monte-Carlo's emblems has been undergoing a new transformation... A new one, indeed, since its construction in 1868, the Café de Paris has been transformed several times over the years.

Initially known as the "Café-Divan", this mythical café-restaurant in the Principality was once a modest architectural building before it was adorned with a Moorish style in 1897, thus blending the flavours of the East and the Mediterranean.

Then, in the 1930s, the Art Deco style imposed itself on the Café de Paris, significantly modifying it: the minarets and domes disappeared, the ornaments adopted the fashion of the Roaring Twenties and this lasted for decades, before borrowing in 1988 the Belle Epoque style of the 1900s. Its famous hall was completely renovated, taking on the appearance of an old Parisian brasserie, which still benefits from its vast terrace with a breathtaking view of the Casino and the Hôtel de Paris. Guests can enjoy the unique atmosphere of Monte Carlo and admire the most luxurious cars.

Over time, these metamorphoses have given the building a mixed architecture. This is why, thirty-four years later, it is being revamped to be homogenised and expanded with new spaces: restaurant, 1,000 sqm rooftop, nightclub and luxury boutiques. Nevertheless, the interior decoration will respect the style and atmosphere of the Brasserie du Café de Paris, which will remain, as will the 24/7 casino.

For more than 150 years, the Café de Paris has constantly reinvented itself to satisfy a demanding international clientele on the one hand and, on the other, to match the other buildings located in the Carré d'Or, which have benefited from refined renovations in recent years.

We will have to wait until the end of June 2023, the scheduled reopening date, to rediscover the warm atmosphere of this key venue in the Principality.
