One more step towards soft mobility: the “Galerie des Salines”

As a result of its commitment to protecting the environment and constantly improving its quality of life, the Principality of Monaco is pursuing its policy regarding soft mobility and will create an underground gallery called "Galerie des Salines", which is scheduled for completion in the first half of 2023.

This gallery will provide a walking link between the Jardin Exotique district, the new Princess Grace Hospital Centre and the Fontvieille district (via the Ilôt Pasteur, presently under construction). Currently separated horizontally by approximately 310 metres as the crow flies and vertically by a difference in altitude of 120 metres, the project would involve connecting a 110-metre underground gallery and a 190-metre aerial footbridge, especially thanks to a series of lifts installed at both ends of the project.

The aim is, naturally, to encourage pedestrian movement and reduce the nuisance caused by vehicle traffic on this axis, since employees, many of whom commute to Fontvieille, and tourists, could park their vehicles in the future dissuasion car park, with a total capacity of 1,820 spaces, located at the entrance to the Jardin Exotique.
